The African Diaspora and the theme of renewal was on the minds of Rosario Dawson and Abrimah Erwiah at Studio 189 who traveled to Ghana earlier this year by invitation of President Nana Akufo-Addo to celebrate Year of Return.
On the runway, diversity was celebrated through fabric, color, pattern, dance, song and symbolism.
The red white and blue stripes amidst the bold African prints stood out, particularly on the day before the anniversary of the September 11th tragedy. This is the third year for me attending the show, consistently brilliantly theatrical and collectively shared, with costume and ceremony key to conveying the roots of the collection and the profound creative and social impulses propelling this women led initiative.
