strawberry sponge

Ventosa Drive, Morristown, 1967....
pink cupcakes, blue dresses, yellow cheese doodles...

we moved from the City to New Jersey when i was one. July 3rd birthdays in the backyard were typically hazy, hot and humid, lovingly hosted around the picnic table, with the sprinkler running and sometimes games like limbo and pin the tail on the donkey, the kids on the block not already on summer vacation in attendance, typically with cupcakes and in later years, with the most elegant, fluffy sponge cake served in the shade of the screened porch, whipped cream and fresh strawberries for filling and whipped cream again as frosting, with whole berries on top, fresh, bright, quintessentially summer!

mary's sponge cake with strawberries....

happy 4th of July!  stay safe!!  fashion is love!  (and cake!)

xoxo
