For Mongolian born, Los Angeles based Jaga Buyan, design is a quiet, inner, painterly process that does not require many words for her to describe:
Q: Where does your inspiration come from?
A: Mongolia.
Mongolian script |
Q: What is your favorite piece in the new Spring '15 collection?
A: I like this one.
bronze cat, sleeveless v crop top... |
Q: Why the cat?
A: I like cats.
Jaga also likes horses:
painted horse, scoop t-shirt.. |
and pockets:
back pocket, painted linen pants... |
patch pockets, sheer tunic... |
and pleats:
back pleat, linen tunic... |
elastic waist, pleated cotton, linen maxi skirt... |
and the color blue to accent the predominantly black and white linen and silk pieces in her hand painted, new Jaga / Duuya collections, at once relaxed and avant-garde, casual and couture.
Sometimes, a desert rose or nude tone makes an appearance.
Silhouettes play off of one another in combinations of the wearer's choosing: loose shirts with rolled cuffs, boyfriend jackets with notched lapels, skinny leggings with panel insets, drape tops with gentle gathers...

Life is but a dream...
some additional threads to the story:
Jaga Buyan is hand crafted and hand painted in Los Angeles, California.
Duuya is the hand painted silk 'sister' to the Jaga line - dresses, tops, skirts and scarves.
Ogi Buyan, Jaga's true sister, lives in Queens, New York and participates in showroom sales and distribution of both collections.
