visions of sugarplums....

The Nutcracker's final curtain at the MET here in New York was on the 31st but if it is visions of sugarplums you are after, you can still barre hop over to the Phillips Collection in D.C. to catch Degas's Dancers at the Barre: Point and Counterpoint.

I twirled through this show in early November on a summer-like morning, mesmerized by the 30 some works assembled from all over the world which together tell the broad story of Degas's fascination with the subject of the ballet dancer and reveal the museum's restored masterpiece, a canvas begun in 1884 and refined and reworked for over two decades by the artist.

A mirrored wall and ballet barre occupy the last room of the exhibit.
A moment for the visitor to imagine herself en pointe, or to pause to practice a deep plie?

For sure, there is just something about a tutu....

Happy New Year and may all your fashion dreams come true!
